Friends & Lovers
At the same time that we “discovered” the Internet in 1996, we were working on the second issue of our newest print magazine “FRIENDS & Lovers The Magazine for Singles Over 40.” In a quick reaction to reader input from the first issue, we changed the name to “Friends & Lovers The Relationships Magazine.” We found out very quickly that it wasn’t just singles who enjoyed our articles.
We published a total of four print editions while we learned more about Web publishing and design. We weren’t sure, in the beginning, if the Internet really was the future of publishing but we quickly had a change of heart after we established our first “FRIENDS & Lovers” web site. The response was phenomenal!
In the December 1996 issue of PC Computing Magazine, FRIENDS & Lovers was named one of the Web’s ten best relationships sites. A few years later, Sally Jesse Rafael began her TV show with “According to Friends and Lovers dot com…”
“Friends & Lovers the Relationships Guide” was designed to be a “destination” site, not a “list of links” site, and it has maintained that focus throughout its development. The site underwent a major transformation in 2008, pulling together the thousands of pages from multiple F&L domains into one cohesive site. It was the first big makeover since the site went “live” 12 years before.
